red interiors are awesome

Agreed. Not at all what I expected from an early Supra but I love it. Why do interiors suck nowadays?
![]() 01/18/2019 at 22:56 |

Because they’re all black and gray!

I love A70s, especially the JZA70 like the second one. I had a chance to get one (that wasn’t running) for about $500 a few years back, but it was gone before I could get the cash. Still kicking myself over it.

Generally speaking, I agree with you. But... Here’s a nice black interior. E39's also have a pretty fantastic black interior. As do a few 90's Volvos, especially the R's with Alcantara/leather interiors... Hnnnng

Supra? Never heard of it.

Give me a quick b riefer on the difference between the two examples I posted. My Toyota nomenclature is... Rough at best.
Don't worry, other gems will appear. I think we've all been there

Really? That's surprising. It's r enowned for it’s high maintainance costs, rubbery shifter, and lack of turn signals

Anecdote:
Two years ago, I’m at a bar top at Scuttlebutt. Guy sits next to me and asks if that Tercel out there is mine. I ask what he drives and he points at this beautiful matte grey Mk III. His was naturally aspirated, which said was far more dependable than his previous MkIII turbo. We talk for a while. I wish I remembered more details, but anyway. Always wish I had bought an MkIII back when they were a tiny bit more common and certainly more affordable. That and about 50 other models, but you know
![]() 01/18/2019 at 23:07 |

The MK3s really were the best

Man that's nice. But of course it's a 300 because someone is hoarding all the face-lifted 400s

The first one is a Canadian market one with a 7M-GTE, an engine that was sent out with a head gasket issue from the factory. The second one is a JDM JZA70. It has a 1JZ, which needs no introduction. The red one is CP since it isn’t drivable, but the black one is a liiiiiiiiittle higher than I would pay for, though on the cheaper side of prices of entry for manual JZ-powered cars.

I very badly want a turbo 3rd gen (I was briefly looking for one before searching for my FB), unfortunately they are pretty expensive, especially around here where they all rotted out by Y2K

Is the engine the only differentiator? And yeah it's a beauty. Definitely the nicest local example I've seen for sale
![]() 01/18/2019 at 23:18 |

Yes. Well that and of course the 300 could be had with Manuel.

I’d like to think that the bar was packed to the eaves and his finely-tuned Toyota sense led him straight to you.

Yes, I’ll take my MKIII in Turbo trim with white paint and a blue interior.

I think he just saw another guy that dressed like a bum in broad daylight and assumed he owned something old and Japanese.

They’re all good, in different ways. I’m sure the new one will be an absolute blast as well, even if it isn’t really what I wanted from a Supra
![]() 01/18/2019 at 23:20 |

The 7M-GTE isn’t that bad if you leave it alone, besides tightening the head bolts. Those have probably been done on all of them by now.

So normally I’d expect the V8 version to be priced at this top, but this bein g Toyota and all.... Is that still normally the case? Which one’s the “cheap” one?
![]() 01/18/2019 at 23:24 |

Sc300s are cheaper, even the manuals. A clean SC400 1997+ that doesn't have 250k miles pushes 10 grand (asking)

Uncanny resemblance. Talk about some long term foreshadowing on BMW’s and Toyota’s part .

It’s okay, the bmw version is better appointed tho.

I had a 7m, when I went looking for parts, every single person I talked to had one that had spun a rod. Like 10/10 people all of them had rod knock. It happened to me as well. The R154 parts and such are like worth their weight in gold seemingly.

Yikes, guess I'll admire them from a distance. Did you end up getting your fuel issues fixed?
![]() 01/19/2019 at 00:57 |

Yes, that will also work. I mean, absolutely any repair is technically possible, right? Boom. No more fear of unreliable cars. I'm a changed man

I do love that shit. But I’d sooner have a Z31, and I prefer the glass t-tops to the targa

Excuse you, I love my 87 Supra with the same maroon interior.

No sir, you misunderstood me. I absolutely love that interior. Also, A+ wheel choice

I understood you, I just wanted you to know that someone else appreciates it too :)
And thanks! I think I made a good choice there, and in the steering wheel which is a wood-rimmed Nardi.

I just got a Toyota HiAce Super Custom with 35000km sooooooo :)
